Rachel Matkin, a distinguished Canadian country music artist, has been serenading audiences with her soulful voice since the tender age of thirteen. Born into a musical legacy, Rachel joined forces with her father and brothers to form The Matkin Family Band.

At just fourteen, the British Columbia Country Music Association (BCCMA) named Rachel Junior Vocalist of the Year. This early recognition set the stage for her musical journey. In 1995, she etched her mark on the industry with the release of "Living Beyond Our Dreams," her debut studio album under Cross Country Records.

The accolades kept pouring in, with “Living Beyond Our Dreams” earning the prestigious Album of the Year honor at the 1996 BCCMA Awards. Rachel herself was recognized with the Ray McAuley Horizon Award, solidifying her status as a rising star. MCA Records, captivated by her musical prowess, signed Rachel to a distribution deal, further propelling her career. The following year, at the 1997 Juno Awards, Rachel's talent garnered her a nomination for Country Female Vocalist of the Year.

In her local community, Rachel's impact is equally profound. In 2006, she clinched an Okanagan Music Award (OMA) for Female Performer of the Year and Country Group of the Year with her then-band Steelwater, further cementing her reputation as a musical force.

In 2014, Rachel, along with award-winning country/folk artist Barry Mathers from The Cruzeros, founded the Roots/Country/Americana group Dirt Road Opera. In 2020, they released the critically acclaimed album "Nowheresville." The culmination of years of musical evolution, the album showcased Rachel's versatility and the band's collective artistry.

Fast forward to 2023, and Dirt Road Opera's excellence was recognized with five Gonzo People's Choice Music Awards, including Favourite Video, Favourite Folk/Roots Group or Artist, Favourite Album, Favourite Single, and Favourite Country Group. As one of the two lead vocalists and the bassist, she has been an integral part of the band's success.
