RACHEL MATKIN AND BARRY MATHERS

Biography 2023

 

Based out of Kelowna, British Columbia, Dirt Road Opera's journey began back in 2016 when JUNO nominees Rachel Matkin and Barry Mathers once again teamed up to make music.

 

The two had previously worked together on albums by the Cruzeros, a well known Canadian country band. Their mutual love of Americana/Roots music inspired them to start writing and recording a record of their own and a year later their debut album Nowheresville was released.

 

Dirt Road Opera recently won all six Fans Choice Awards they were nominated for including Country Group, Folk/Roots Group, Favourite Album,  Nowheresville, Favourite Single, Seven Shells, Favourite Video, Tell the Truth and Songwriter of the Year,  Barry Mathers.

 

Harmonies are a big part of their sound and Rachel and Barry's voices weave effortlessly through the music. They play originals along with songs by some of their favourite artists such as Linda Ronstadt, John Prine, Van Morrison and Steve Earle.
